CDL Training

CDL Training

You must pass 2 tests to obtain your CDL:

1

The General Knowledge Test covers information, such as how to operate the vehicle, and the basic knowledge of how the vehicle works. It also tests the driver’s knowledge on how to manage obstacles that truck drivers encounter every day.

If you are looking to take any additional tests to expand your knowledge on all the different types of commercial motor vehicles, consider the three below:

  1. Passenger Transport Test: All bus drivers are required to take this test.
  2. Air Brakes Test: All drivers who wish to drive a vehicle that has air brakes are required to take this test.
  3. Tanker Test: All drivers who plan on driving a commercial vehicle that is carrying liquids is required to take this test.
2

The Skills Tests challenges applicants with hands-on experience to exhibit their abilities and capabilities on the road. This test has three different sections:

  1. Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection: This inspection tests the driver on whether a commercial vehicle is safe to be on the road. The test involves the applicant checking the tires, gauges, lights, the overall condition of the vehicle, and doing a last minute walk around.
  2. Basic Vehicle Control: This tests the driver on basic knowledge, expertise, and control of commercial vehicles.
  3. On-Road Application: The driver’s skill and control during on-road situations are tested and approved if deemed knowledgeable and capable.

Physical requirement qualifications are also necessary for applicants. In order to earn a commercial driver’s license through a truck driving school, each individual needs to come ready with:

  1. Proof of Residency
  2. Proof of Insurance
  3. Social Security Card
  4. Proof of Identity & Age

There are more general qualifications that each applicant must meet to be able to get into a truck driving school:

  1. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older to apply.
  2. Must be able to communicate fluently with the public.
  3. Must be able to read and understand highway traffic signs.
  4. Must be able to fill out reports and know how to respond to law enforcement.
  5. Applicants must also have completed a driver’s road test and issued a certificate as proof of completion.

Once all required steps are finished, applicants who have successfully completed their CDL training as required in truck driving school will be able to contribute to the face-paced growth of our highways systems and be a part of helping our country move forward.
